in Plangkahan Procession

At the time KPH Yudanegara performs the procession of Nyantri, GKR Bendara performs the processions of Plangkahan and Ngabekten located in Keraton Kilen (Western Palace). The king Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono X is also attending on these processions.

The term “Plangkahan” in Javanese Language means “step over”. This Javanese tradition is performed when the younger brother or sister is getting married first over his or her older brother or sister. The procession is performed by GKR Bendara because her marriage precedes her sister, GRAj Nurabrajuwita.

In this procession, GKR Bendara is asking GRAj Nurabrajuwita’s permission to get married first. GKR Bendara must hand over the “terms” to GRAj Nurabrajuwita in the form of some jewelries, handbags, shoes, purses, bananas, and Kebaya (Javanese traditional clothes). After handing over the “terms”, GKR Bendara wears the gray Kebaya to perform the Procession of Ngabekten, a procession of asking the blessing from the King Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono X and the Empress GKR Hemas.

When the processions of Plangkahan and Ngabekten have been completed, GKR Pembayun (the eldest daughter of Sultan Hamengkubuwono X) gives order to BRAy Suryadiningrat and BRAy Suryametaram to pick up GKR Bendara from Kraton Kilen (Western Palace) to be brought to Keputren. After entering the complex of Keputren, the group of GKR Bendara will stop by at Kedathon Sekar Ward and in the porch of Gedhong Prabayeksa Ward.

There in Keputren, GKR Bendara will perform the processions of Sengker or Pingitan. During the processions, GKR Bendara is not allowed to be out from Keputren. In addition, GKR Bendara will also make some preparation to perform the procession of Siraman that is scheduled to be held on (17/10).
