Bangsal Kencana

Bangsal kencana (Kencana Ward) is one of the buildings in Kraton Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat which in very poor condition. No visible damage though, but for the building on its age, the ward need to be renovated now. The wood as its primary building material has reached its limit.

The effort to renovate the ward has been done already. One of which is the renovation budget submission to the central government according to National Budget (APBN). The total budget submitted to the government is approximately Rp7 billion. But the budget yet to get down for the renovation and it is expected to be approved next year.

Kencana is the main ward of Kraton Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat. The ward was used to hold the ceremonies. Kencana became one of tourist destinations when visiting Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat Sultanate Palace. Therefore, if the renovation is not began immediately, to be feared something terrible will happen soon.

Beneficial Aspects

The renovation might not be done thoroughly all the building, but just on the certain object where need to be very necessary for repair considering the limited budget. However, there are Objects of Heritage (BCB) that on the monitoring of the Department of Culture DIY which according to them will be renovated too. One of these objects is Bangsal Sewotomo in Kraton Paku Alaman, Yogyakarta. The process of renovation will also be conducted next year.

In 2011, the Department of Culture DIY also has done some renovations on Objects of Heritage (BCB). The renovations include Bangsal Ngeksigondo in Kaliurang and Kauman Mosque in Pleret. The ward need to refurbishment as it was damaged post-eruption of Mount Merapi in 2010. The budget of Rp.300 million has been earmarked for the project that has been running about two month and a half.

Ngeksigondo Ward deemed to be worthy for renovation as one of the Objects of Heritage (BCB) and also historic event ever happened in this ward, which was Kaliurang Conference on January 13, 1948. At that time, Sri Sultan HB IX, Mohammad Hatta, Sutan Sjahrir, Soekarno, and General Sudirman, as the representative of Indonesia to negotiate with Three-State Commission, represented by Dr. Frank Graham (United States), Richard Kirby (Australia), and Paul van Zeeland (Belgium). Kaliurang Conference conducted to discuss the territory of the Republic of Indonesia which its result was the “Notulen Kaliurang” (Note of Kaliurang).

In addition to Ngeksigondo Ward and Kauman Mosque in Pleret, actually there are many other worthy objects (BCB) need for renovation. But the problem is limited funds which make the others could not be renovated. The process, as stated by the Head of Department of Culture DIY, Djoko Dwiono was decided with the consideration of beneficial aspects, which include aspect of culture, economic, and history. The lack of information about BCB makes the process of renovation or refurbishment constrained. Therefore, prior to the renovation, the Department of Culture DIY formed a team to examine. If it is considered into three categories of beneficial aspects, then the renovation budget must be submitted immediately to the National Budget in order to renovate as soon as possible.
