Jami 'Aji Amir Hasanuddin Mosque

Jami 'Aji Amir Hasanuddin is Kutai Kartanegara ing Martadipura Sultanate Mosque built in 1874. As the initiator of the development of Jami 'Aji Amir Hasanuddin Mosque is Aji Sultan Muhammad Sulaiman, the Sultan of Kutai who reigned during 1850 to 1899. At first, the building was in form of small mosque then it was renovated but still unfinished.

When the Sultanate led by the grandson of Aji Sultan Muhammad Sulaiman, Aji Sultan Muhammad Parikesit (1920-1959), further renovation was done to build a larger mosque to be precisely in 1930. The name of the mosque known as Jami 'Aji Amir Hasanuddin Mosque and located in Tenggarong was taken from the name of Minister of the Sultanate, Aji Amir Hasanuddin who became the main developer and had the title of Haji Adji Pangeran Sosronegoro.

Jami 'Aji Amir Hasanuddin Mosque has many collections in good conditions, including the mosque tower, master pole, mosque podium, and the angle of mosque mihrab. The architecture is designed with motifs of traditional house of East Kalimantan. The roof of Jami 'Aji Amir Hasanuddin Mosque is overlapping three-manifold with a pyramid-shaped peak pentagon. At every level of the roofs, there are signs of ventilation with varying amounts, depending on the size of the level.

The mosque is located adjacent to Kutai Kartanegara ing Martadipura Royal Palace that the establishment was completed in 2002. The Royal palace was built at new place along with the rise of Kutai Kartanegara ing Martadipura Sultanate even its discourse has been initiated since 1999. The mosque has a considerable role for the community of Tenggarong and Kutai as it contains big historical value. In addition, it has been decided as one of historic mosques in Indonesia.

Aside from being a place of worship, Jami 'Aji Amir Hasanuddin Mosque is functioned as a place to hold religious activities organized by Kutai Kartanegara ing Martadipura Sultanate such as the commemoration of the Maulid (birthday) of Prophet Muhammad SAW, which organized as a cultural activity, titled “Kerobok Maulid ceremony”. The event is parade procession started from Jami 'Aji Amir Hasanuddin Mosque where the procession is done by reading litany and then dispatched to Kutai Kartanegara ing Martadipura Royal Palace.
